Answer: Gandhiji choose to break the salt law because in his view, it was sinful to tax salt since it is such as essential item of our food that is used by the rich or the poor person in the same quantity.Gandhi and his selected followers went to the sea-shoe and broke the salt law by picking up salt left on the shore by the sea. Gandhi then gave a signal to all Indians to manufacture salt illegally. He wanted the people to break the salt law openly and to prepare themselves for non-violent resistance to police action.
