What is the difference between oxidation and reduction ​

Oxidation is the loss of electrons whereas reduction is the gain of electrons. You can remember this using OILRIG (Oxidation Is Loss, Reduction Is Gain.)

Oxidation is giving out one or more electrons gaining a positive charge.

Reduction is taking one or more electrons and gaining a negative charge
