( {x + 2) }^(2) - 9 = 0


( {x + 2) }^(2) = 9


x + 2 = \pm √(9)


x = - 2 \pm 3


x = - 5\: or \: x = 1

The y-intercept is


y = {0}^(2) + 4(0)- 5 = - 5
