Explanation:

The linear ratio = 3 : 1, hence

The area ratio = 3² : 1² = 9 : 1

let x be the area of the smaller circle, then


(9)/(1) =
(27)/(x) ( cross- multiply )

9x = 27 ( divide both sides by 9 )

x = 3

Area of the smaller circle = 3 in²

It’s 9. 3x9 is 27. Nothing else times anything equals 27, excluding decimals.
