In Hamlet´s famous soliloquy, the one that begins “to be or not to be”, also known as the “nunnery scene”, Shakespeare´s immortal character ponders life, its burdens and hardships, and the options available for human beings to end this sufferings. Amongst these options ending one´s life is contemplated; however, Hamlet recognizes that not many follow this path for feat that what may come after death might actually be worse than what one is living currently. For that reason, and perhaps for that reason alone, human beings may endure life´s hardships: fear that what lies ahead may be worse.
