Many people who were a part of temperance movement believed that alcohol was the root of all evil, and that it caused many problems like gang wars and murder. However, unlike the prohibition, the temperance movement didn't want to completely destroy the alcohol industry, but just wanted people to moderate their drinking habits, which caused the decrease of many health problems.
