Plessy v. Ferguson established the doctrine of "separate but equal." In your own words, explain what " separate but equal" means​

By the definition of Plessy v. Ferguson, the definition of "separate but equal" is generally understood as meaning that the facilities might be separate and different but they are basically the same.

This, obviously, was not the case.
