Abolition, or abolitionism, is the term that describes the movement to end the slave trade and emancipate American slaves during the 1800s.
These ideas of abolishing slavery for ethical and moral reasons started to spread especially after being condemned by France, the Pope, English and American Quakers, and the Roman Catholic Church.
