Unless Gregor isn't human, I would say it was a dream. If Gregor is any sort of insect, i would say yes.

Answer:

It was not a dream. Gregor wakes metamorphosed into a monstrous insect. It's your new reality. Gregor himself makes this clear to readers in the second paragraph of the narrative, where he says: "It was not a dream."

Step-by-step explanation:

In A Metamorphosis, Kafka states that life simply happens, independent of man's desires and ambitions. Kafka also shows us in this book that it is crucial to be properly prepared not only for changes in ourselves but also for the transformations that take place in others.

In the plot, Gregor proudly maintained the role of provider of his family. However, after suddenly becoming an insect, it becomes a focus of problems, an agent of conflict and malaise, a miserable cause of misfortune; basically a hindrance that needs to be eliminated.
