World War I marks one of the greatest jumps in warfare in human history.

The reason for this is that World War I was the first world war after the industrial revolution really hit its stride. So, advances in technology were able to be translated into the battlefield causing a massive loss of life at the hands of chemical weapons, aircraft, tanks, and more.
