What types of cases do appeal courts hear?

Typically, but not always, appeals courts hear cases on appeal from a lower courts.

When sitting as an appeals court, an appeals court will not hear new facts. It will not be an entirely new trial. Instead, the court will review "the record" for obvious errors, procedural errors, etc.
