In Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" adolescent Clarisse McClellan is Guy Montag's neighbor. He has never met anybody like her before: she is not keen on her peers' violent and dangerous entertainment . She enjoys walking, talking, and contemplating nature and people. Her questioning and free spirit makes Montag reflect about his own life and place in society.

Clarisse is the neighbor and romantic interest of the protagonist of the story, Montag. She is very important for the transformation of Montag, because unlike the other citizens of the city where the book is passed, she is not apathetic, has deep thoughts on various subjects and is a questioner of what is happening. Her behavior influences protagonist to do the same.
