Because the American people in general developed a new respect for African art and culture​

I wouldn't say developing respect.. more like appropriating the culture and simplifying it beyond recognition.

But since this newfound respect had significantly grew, one can say that Americans have began to popularize it and assimilate it into our daily lives in some fashion or another..
