The catholic church has certain practices or believes that are not very socially accepted. For example there is a thought that people could buy indulgences or reduce punishment after death. This means that anyone could sin, but if they contribute monetary to church they will be absolved from all of their sins. This is totally unacceptable, salvation has nothing to do with money.
The Church as an Institution represents basic foundations of society such as life and the family. Having the Church, no matter the religion, standing against same-sex marriage, second time marriages and against abortion, may made people angry.
