Why did the U.S government produce posters like this during World War I? How does the poster try to appeal to Americans?

It could be classified as propaganda. It's motive was to persuade women of America to support the US cause in WW1. It would target emotion, in this case, one could say it'd target your sense of pride and will convince you to buy something.
