(1) In a book titled The Art of Loving, a psychologist describes the difference between "mother love" and "father love." (2) Mother love says, "I will always love you no matter what. (3) Nothing you ever do or fail to do will make me stop loving you." (4) On the other hand, father love says, "I will love you if you earn my love and respect. (5) You must do things like obey me, get good grades, make the team, choose the right friends, get into a good college, and earn a good salary." (6) In contrast to mother love, father love may seem harsh. (7) But sometimes we want to hear that we are loved because we deserve it, not only because the other person cares for us without conditions.
