“Probable cause” protects a person’s rights by making sure

the police can do their job.
public property can be easily searched.
the person receives legal representation.
private property is searched only when reasonable.

This is because Probable cause is used when the police have reason to believe that something is off. Like if they see smoke coming out of your car, they have reason to believe that you are smoking.
