How are presidents selected?

The people from each state vote for president and when the election is over in that state the president with the most votes win there and get electoral votes (electoral votes are from each county like California having 54 electoral) then the person with the most electoral votes is president (this process is really confusing)

they are selected when citizens of a nation vote for them to be elected, by popular demand of the people(democracy) i hope that helps
