In King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" in 1963, he responded to the claims of 8 white moederte clerics who accused him of simply helping to stir an already tense situation instead of contribuiting to reach for a solution to the problems in Birmingham. King stated that it people "had the moral responsibility to break unjust laws rather than wait in vain for justice to go thorught courts." He finished his letter claiming that "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".
