Firstly, many people saw Buddhism as a way to escape the suffering from all of the problems in China and the Monks and Nuns living in the monasteries provided that “escape”. Secondly, Buddhist temples and monasteries provided medical care, ran schools, provided seeds and milling to farmers, and travelers stayed in monasteries during their journeys as a safe place to stay. Also, Buddhist monks taught that giving away a son to a monastery would benefit their relatives for generations which was thought of as a good idea.
