The 18th amendment was a very unpopular amendment that made the selling and consumption of alcohol illegal in the United States. Religious activists, women and part of the male population played big part in getting prohibition enacted since they believed alcohol was the main cause of the violence and other problems that American families were facing at the time.

The 18th amendment made the lives of ordinary Americans more difficult since it definitely hurt the economy and they, also, had to deal with the crime that swept through the country after the law was enforced.
