President Andrew Jackson argued that the most suitable place to locate the indigenous tribes would be the lands west of the Mississippi River. It began to speak of "Indian territory", in theory the president said that there would have a place insured "forever", but in practice it would not be like that, they would also be expelled from there. Many congressmen supported his idea, finally the congress approved it and Jackson signed the Law of Forced Transfer of the Indians. The president had the power to negotiate the purchase of land in the east in exchange for land west of the border.
