Sediments on earths surface sometimes differ in composition from the underlying rock

In both weathering and erosion, the sediments are displaced to the location other than the one where their parent rock originated. Therefore, sediments are carried from place to place. Hence, the composition of sediments will be different from the composition of the underlying bedrock.
