The difference of a rational number and its additive inverse is equal to zero because and additive inverse is the opposite of the number being added or subtracted, so like the additive inverse of 17 would be -17. If you add them then they will contradict each other and you will get zero.

For example, 13+-13=?

This would get 0 cause you start at 13 then you are basically subtracting the whole number to get 0
