Strategies to identify high fibre whole grain foods

  • Differentiate between plant-based and animal-based food because only plant-based foods contain fibre e.g fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains.
  • Fruits that you can eat without peeling their skin have more fibre than those you peel off because there is high percentage of fibre in the outer protective layer of a fruit e.g apples, strawberries, carrots.
  • Vegetables that are green and leafy have more constituent of fibre than other, as more the green vegetable will be more cellulose it will have which is actually fibre.
  • All types of seeds, beans and some dry fruits like almond are enriched source of fibre e.g flaxseeds chai, seeds, black and white beans, kidney beans.
  • All types of porridge.
