Why are skeletal remains so important at the Aztec Massacre site? Why does this discovery of European skulls at the Aztec Massacre site make archaeologists rethink history?

The skeletal remains at the Aztec Massacre site proved hundreds of people were murdered in ritual killings and human sacrifice by the Aztecs (Mesoamerica, 14th - 16th centuries).

Furthermore, anthropologists were able to find out that some of the human remains found at Zultepec had belonged to Spanish Conquistadors. Although It was long believed that the Aztecs did not resist the Spanish Conquistadors, these excavations reflect major fighting between Aztec and Spanish forces.
