Read this excerpt from the poem “Lincoln Looked.”

Lincoln looked and looked
and looked for the moment
that the nation would open
its eyes and rise
to the occasion.

And when that moment appeared,
Lincoln looked no further
but instead he got to work
re-creating the country
we live in today, and the country
we look back on in wonder.

Which word best describes the author’s tone?

critical
admiring
humorous
unhappy

I believe this is admiring, because the author isn't criticizing what Lincoln did to the nation, and he is also not laughing about it. The author isn't unhappy either, and I think he is admiring the job Lincoln did.

(my answer: admiring)
