m = 2 m= 2

The slopes are the same so these are parallel lines.

b. 3x + y = 2 becomes y= -3x + 2 y = 1/3 x + 1/2

m = -3 m= 1/3

The slopes are different so this is not parallel.

Since -3 and 1/3 are the negative reciprocals of each other. These lines are actually perpendicular.
