A rate compares two types of measurements. Many grocery stores list unit rates for products on their shelves. If a 16oz can of green beans costs $.89, what is its unit rate? How is a unit rate different from a rate? Explain your solution process

Rate is a ratio of different units ( a quantity times a quantity), such as miles per hour.

Unit rate is a rate with a denominator of 1.

To find unit rate, divide the total cost by the quantity:

0.89 / 16 = 0.0556 per ounce.
