In the mid-1830s, Anglo Texans and Tejanos wanted independent control of their own affairs.

These people did not want to depend on Mexico. The federal government of Mexico was too far away and in reality, the Mexican government did not pay much attention to ist Northern territories, Texas being the case. So this wish of independence was one of the reasons that originated the Texas Revolution of 1835-1836. Inhabitants of the state of Coahuila and Texas revolted against the Mexican government. Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santana sent his troops and won a couple of battles such as the battle of Alamo and Coleto Creek. In the end, the Texans won the battle of San Jacinto and got its Independence from Mexico.
