What happens to the numbers of chromosomes after meiosis?

The number of chromosomes is increased by doubling.
The number of chromosomes is reduced by one half.
Only maternal chromosomes are replicated.
The amount of chromosomes does not change.

It goes from 43 to 26 during the process of meiosis.
