Direct democracy is a system of government in which the citizens directly vote on policies and legislation, as opposed to electing representatives that do so for them.
However, this system is not exclusive of government and can take place in many different contexts. An example of this occurs when a group takes a vote on something. As the people are voting directly on an issue, and each vote counts, this could be considered an example of direct democracy.
