Why did the Portuguese colonize Brazil

Portugal began its colonization for economic and strategic reasons. On the one hand, the economic causes are due to the decline in profits from trade with the East and the commercial possibilities of Pau-Brasil, the bark from which a red dye used to dye fabrics is produced.
