The coenzyme NAD is a cofactor. It is present in the cells in the form of NAD+. It functions as an oxidizing agent. It accepts electrons from molecules participating in the reaction and itself gets reduced, results in the formation of NADH. The product NADH is used as a reducing agent to donate the electrons in the electron transport chain.
