The fact that the silent wearing of the black armbands did not objectively cause any kind of disruption of the order required for the proper functioning of the school which is required to efficiently provide teaching to the students. Indeed, silent symbolic protests with a clear political message of opposition to other political and institutional views or actions do not disrupt teaching and thus are protected by the First Amendment.
