In her poem, Mary TallMountain talks about a wolf going along an abandoned city, apparently injured not only physically but also mentally, to get to its owner or partner, a person whom has survive the catastrophy that may had killed the people in the town and perhaps the world.

What TallMountain is criticizing is perhaps, the consequences of our actions and how it all will be at the end, with destruction and loneliness, and the wolf represents those whom suffered from this despite not having done anything to cause this.
