The pituitary gland secretes the luteinizng hormone (LH).
LH reaches it's peak concentration on the 13th day of the menstrual cycle.
On the 14th day, the egg is released from the ovary and, if not fertilized, which is what typically happens, the egg is released from the body, using the reproductive tract, during the menstrual bleeding process.
