The XIX century saw the uprising and the independence of most of the colonies that were under the rule of the Spanish crown. The most famous movement was the one lead by Simón Bolivar and José de San Martín; which eventually liberated Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. The main reason that sparked these revolutions was the strict restrictions placed by Spain over the colonies, in relation to the ability to trade and right to chose their own representatives.
