The Peace of Westphalia, concluded in 1648 in Münster (Germany), ended the Thirty Years War, which started with an anti-Habsburg revolt in Bohemia in 1618 but became an entanglement of different conflicts concerning the constitution of the Holy Roman Empire, religion, and the state system of Europe.

The Peace of Westphalia was a series of treaties that ended the Thirty Years War in Europe. Besides bringing a period of peace in Europe, the Treaties also created an important principle in international law called Westphalian Sovereignty or State Sovereignty which means that each state has sovereignty over its territory, no matter how big or small the country is. This principle is still a base of international principles.
