Cox v. Louisiana concerned the picketing of places of business.

Cox was convicted of organising a riot and disturbing the peace, but the Supreme Court overturned his conviction, stating that he had organised a peaceful protest.

Cox v. Louisiana held that states could not use "breach of the peace statutes" against protestors engaging in peaceable demonstration. They however did place limitations on parades or picketing near courthouses.
