By 1939, the Mexican Repatriation was essentially over, although prejudice towards Americans of Mexican ancestry persisted. The so-called Zoot Suit Riots, which occurred in Los Angeles in July 1943, were sparked by bigotry towards Mexican-Americans, which persisted even after the city and county administrations of Los Angeles stopped carrying out unlawful deportations.
