so the pythagorean theorem is:
a^2+b^2=c^2
where a and b are the sides, and c is the hypotenuse.
to fill this in, we will get:
x^2+8^2=14^2
now we will need to solve.
x^2+8^2=14^2
x^2+64=196
x^2=132
x=11.5
