Joe buy pens and pencils.pens cost $1.50 and pencils cost $0.75.Write an equation that represents the combinations of how many each of each he can buy for $12​

1.50x + 0.75= $12

Orrrrr

1.50x + 0.75y = $12

I could be wrong but the x represents how many pens he buys and y represents how many pencils he buys. Or you could use x for both. But are there any answer options?
