The first people to come to Louisiana to claim territory were Spanish settlers, a man named Panfilo de Narvaez in 1528, and then Hernando de Soto in 1543.
Then, there was the Lewis and Clark Expedition, sent by President Thomas Jefferson from 1803-1806.
