Answer: x=2 and y=5

Explanation:

Substitute the Y= equation for the Y in the second equation.

ie: x+3(2x+1)=17

Now all of your variables are the same and you can solve for X. You should get X=2.

Then plug 2 in for X in the first equation

ie: y=2(2)+1

Then solve for Y. You should get 5
