Why d/dt(a+bt^2)=2bt

Because a is not a function of t .

So d/dt of a is zero.

Because a, not being multiplied for t, becomes a constant and goes away.
bt^2 is an elementary derivation

d/dt(a+bt^2) = 0 + 2bt = 2bt
