Some African American men were used to fight in the war and actually volunteered or got deployed because not enough people were strong enough to make it past certain obstacles.
Many of them risked their lives and actually boosted the strength of the US military.
Some were only chosen as a last resort and many African Americans were not actually allowed to be in the military.
