Why did southern states fear Missouri's entry into the Union as a free state?​

They did thus as a result of it set a precedent for Congress to form laws regarding slavery, whereas Northerners unlikable the law as a result of it meant slavery was swollen into new territory. Sandford, that dominated that the compromise was unconstitutional.
