Mecca was a place of pilgrimage since Abraham built the Ka'ba. ... Allah wanted to remove idols from Ka'ba, as it's a sacred place. Jews gathered in Medina with a hope that a prophet will rise there, who will return Jerusalem to them. And Christians were there too.
