Mary has some money to purchase furniture for her home. She bought a television that cost $1400. She spent 40% of the remaining money on a bed. If the bed cost 25% as much as the total amount of money she had at first. What is the difference between the cost of the television set and the bed?

Answer:

The difference $2.733.30

Explanation:

Let the total money be x

The remaining money will be (x-1400)

40% of this on a bed

= 40/100 (x-1400)

= 0.4(x-1400)

cost of bed is 25% of x

Thus;

0.4(x-1400) = 25/100 * x

0.4(x-1400) = 0.25x

0.4x - 560 = 0.25x

0.4x-0.25x = 560

= 0.15x = 560

x = 560/0.15

So the difference between the tv and. bed, will be ;

560/0.15 - 1400

= (560-210)/0.15 = $2,333.33
